Chennai the gateway to the South also called Madras, Is the first city of Tamil Nadu & is an amalgamation of ancient & modern history. The city was founded in the year 1639 & is celebrating its 367 th birthday this year in August. The residents of Chennai will get to remember the 22 nd of August as Chennai or Madras Day. |
HISTORY OF MADRAS
The city forgot its founding day - said to be August 22, 1639 . It was on that day, in that year, that a sliver of land, where Fort. St. George stands today, was transacted by the East India Company.The deal was struck by Francis Day, his 'dubash' Beri Thimmappa, and their superior, Andrew Cogan, with the local Nayak rulers. It is believed that this deal was made on August 22, 1639. Out of the fort, grew settlements. Then the villages of mylapore, triplicane, ezhambur have now become part of Madras. If you want to reach someone's soul, what better way than music….Lets create the music, the anthem of Chennai. A contest open to all Professionals and Amateurs - to create our city's own anthem a 1 to 1.5 minutes song in English and Tamil which will describe the city and its history. The music could be of any genre with Lyrics describing the beauty of Chennai, its culture, music, tradition and its people.
Lets dedicate a song, an ode, a soiree of our favorite city - The Anthem of Chennai

Lyrics should talk about the beauty of chennai & its diversity in culture, music& its people. The completed work should be sent on a CD with cover & concept details. |
