Introduction

Welcome to MEPZ. This zone is located in Chennai(formerly known as Madras) in the state of Tamilnadu, India.

The zone is administered by an office under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and is headed by a Development Commissioner.

Export Processing Zones (EPZs) are special enclaves, separated from Domestic Tariff Area by physical barriers

They are intended to provide an environment for production at low costs, so that the exporting firms may operate profitably in the international market.

Chennai (Madras) has one of seven EPZs set up by the Indian Government.Units in the Zone use infrastructure facilities provided by Government at very reasonable cost. The units also enjoy incentives and facilities provided by the Central and State Governments.

Location

Chennai (Madras) is on the east coast of South India.

It is conveniently located for trade with Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Far East.

Chennai has a population of about 5.4 million. It is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu.

MEPZ is located on the National Highway from Chennai to Tiruchi.

It is about 6km from the Airport and 24 km from the harbour.
