a surprise victory over Gurpreetpal Singh of Railways. The game
started with the king pawn and black employed an irregular
french setup. On the 10th move Gurpreetpal Singh captured a pawn
on C3 which proved to be fatal.Black obtained sufficient compensation
for the pawn and won the game on the 30th move.

R K Mishra adopted the French defence against Amardeep S Bartakke.
Bartakke weakened his king side by 12.g3. Mishra took advantage
of this and won an exchange on the 29th move and finally the game
        after 45 moves.

D K Sharma (LIC) was held to a fighting draw by N Sanjay (Income tax)
in a game arising out of the Caro-Kann openning.White's slight
advantage was equalised by black inspite of being a pawn down.
        The game lasted 53 moves.

Vishal Sareen(LIC) easily overcame the opposition of IWM Saritha
Reddy. Saritha played the classical variation of the Caro-Kann
defence and lost a pawn after the exchange of queens and ultimately
the game on the 54th move.

I M Neeraj Kumar Mishra (Tata Steel) chose to play the Taimanov
variation of the Sicilian defence against G B Joshi of Indian
Airlines and obtained clear advantage early in the opening.
Mishra won a pawn and used it to clinch the issue.

The game between C S Gokhale and K Visweswaran ended in a draw
after a prolonged fight which emerged from a kings indian defence.
White employed the bayonet attack favoured by Kramnik but mishandled
the system to allow black easy equality.
