CRAFTS COUNCIL OF INDIA

Crafts Council of India is a registered
non-profit voluntary organisation working
for the preservation of crafts & for
a better quality of life for the craftsperson.

Objectives
To ensure:
* that crafts sell
* that there is no compromise on quality
* that the craftsperson gets a fair price
* that the craftsperson's family and the future generations find it worthwhile to continue in the field.

Where
CCI is headquartered in Madras, has a network of Crafts Councils in ten states. The work in the field at the grass roots level is done by/through these councils. The absence of a council in a particular state does not prevent work being undertaken there.
How
In order to fulfill its objectives the areas of operation include:
* ensuring adequate raw material supplies to the craftsmen at a regular rate.
* upgradation of tools and technology wherever needed.
* community building programmes with groups of craftsperson.
* introducing product design.
* conducting market surveys.
* marketing - which includes a whole gamut of operations including linking with potential buyers & Exhibition/Sales.

CCI is administered by a group of voluntary workers elected every two years. Projects to be implemented are handed over to professional bodies/individuals.
